| The Edge So, how do I describe The Edge? Well, let me say that when I first thought of a salon of my own, I had some pretty silly ideas. I was young in this industry, and the thought of my owning my own salon was a million miles away. I had an image of stark black/white decor with all the warmth of a hospital ER. |

It was clean and crisp, with a staff that was efficient and orderly. It was to be really "cool". As time and experience soon taught me, however, it would also have been like 20 other salons, and probably out of business. I have worked in this industry for many years. During this time I have been an educational trainer for several companies, and have seen hundreds of salons. These experiences have taught me several things. Give me the opportunity to share some of these things I have learned with you, and they will explain what to expect at The Edge. First of all, a salon is everything but predictable. Some are big, some are small, but every successful salon is bristling with energy and drama. Even though the objective is to keep to a timely schedule, all too often there is a new client with an even newer drama. So, my idea of the salon that ran like an accounting firm faded away. Second, was a crisp, almost sterile environment. A salon is kept in business by meeting sanitation codes and laws, of course, but it must also be much more. It must be inviting and colorful, with many comforts that make it a separate entity in and of itself. Not quite home, but far from the feeling one gets in a true "business" atmosphere. People come to a salon to lose themselves for just a little while. Where else can you spend a couple of hours getting pampered and really accomplish little more than just that!? Over the years I have imagined a place where you can greet familiar faces, escape from the pressures of everyday life, and leave not only looking more fashionable, but literally having a renewed spirit. Thirdly, and finally, the "orderly staff". Let me say initially that I have seen salons that were so organized that they would put most banks to shame. But they lacked some essential traits; like personality, imagination, talent, and above all else, FUN! You know what you get in a salon with a staff who has similar tastes and styles? Clients who leave looking like they walked out of a cloning machine. Anyone reading this has a salon near him or her that this describes perfectly. Every cut similar, every highlight the same, {yawn} So what is The Edge? The Edge is not just a salon; it is an attitude. It is for the people that believe that our area has just as much style and electricity as any big city. At The Edge you will find a relaxing atmosphere among friends with just enough flash to stir the unique creativity found in all of us. The Edge is located in a rustic business strip near a busy shopping plaza, but nestled just far enough away to escape the hustle and bustle of large crowds. We pride ourselves on being a private and secure haven to escape from everyday life. The serenity of salons vanished in the nineties with the "bigger is better" salons with their overflowing appointment books and revolving door staffs. Patrons of mega salon chains frequently suffer from quickie haircuts at the hands of overtaxed stylists, with the indignity of being treated less like treasured clients and more like twenty-minute time slots. Sporting absurd ad and sales on even more useless items, these mega salons have successfully propagated the myth that only gigantic chains can product a wonderful haircut, The Edge is a personal studio that perhaps is not for everyone. It has been designed for the discriminating client who is looking for that truly personal touch. We pride ourselves on being current with all the latest trends and technical breakthroughs in the fashion and cosmetic industry, and providing you with valuable tips to keep your hair looking great all the time. We use only the finest professional products and we take the time to find just the right style for each individual. With your first visit you will find that your looking good and feeling great is not just our purpose, but our passion. So, when work is too much, and that person who stares back at you in the mirror is just lacking - or you have just about had it with the limitations and expectations that life has put on you... Come to the place as one- of-a-kind as you are. Sit back, read a magazine, sip some wine, and laugh knowing that you are finally in expert hands. Now you know why we say: "Don't let life push you to the Edge....Go Looking For It!" -Scott A. Wilson |
